Curatorial Rationale
For my Breadth of Art, I created artwork that I hope will entertain your sense of humor or send your imagination on a journey. I created artwork that is bright and colorful and attention-grabbing which is the purpose of my breadth of art. I have created art intended to Encourage you to stare in awe at the weirdness that my art brings. I wanted my art to be different from others art. I wanted it to be strange and weird-looking and colorful so that it grabs the audience's attention. And to make my art weird and fascinating I created fake scenarios and people and animals. With a lot of my art, I made right wrong things. Honestly, I loved making all of my artworks. I wanted my breadth of art to be something I would enjoy making. Something I knew I wouldn't get bored with. Even though some artworks took more than a few hours and I got a bit overwhelmed I still had fun. And I got to use a lot of my imagination and make my art as wacky as I wanted to. And I've noticed that throughout High School my art and my art style have evolved a lot. At my old school Broad Ripple High School, I used a lot of my imagination but stopped using it as much when I came to Shortridge. But I pushed myself to learn and study more for my Breadth of Art. I created artwork that I hope will entertain your sense of humor or send your imagination on a journey. And kind of found my own art style. To get where I am as an artist today, I practiced a lot and made plenty of mistakes and still do. I learned from them and have tried different types of art and grew to love them all. At first, I chose identity for my big idea but later on, it seemed a bit boring to me. so, I chose humor and Imagination so that I had more freedom to do anything with my artworks and could do anything. and I like the idea more than the other one because this one is closer to my personality which would make it easier for me. In my painting Freaky Friday, it's based on a random thought that I have had. The thought that I had was what if dogs walked humans and they switched places. I always thought that the idea was funny, so I decided to make it into a painting. I used the movie Zootopia characters concept art as a reference for the dog so that he looked a bit human-like but still looks like an animal. With my painting the “Man in Color” I used oil pastels for the first time since elementary. I thought that I wouldn't know how to use them. At first, I was confused so I watched a video and practiced drawing eyes and retaught myself how to use them and made something pretty cool. And I surprised myself with how it came out. For my artworks, I decided to try and push myself to make difficult art that I knew would take a while to complete. I tried doing more realistic Arts but then also some cartoon arts. Back in middle school is when I started drawing more realistically and made 3d art too. And I got more into a realistic drawing style with some of my artworks. And personally, I believe that my artistic skills have improved. And I got better at using Oil Pastels. I made a lot of cool artworks. I've made cartoon art and realistic art and I'm proud of them. I think they are pretty cool. My goal for my breadth of art is to make you feel happy and for you to see what goes on in my brain and my imagination. |

Title Flower Fae
Medium Acrylic paint Size 35x35 cm Intention for this I wanted it to be an artwork that makes the viewer stare at it and think about what's going on. I want the viewer to be shocked when they understand the painting. The painting is a fantasy themed painting that is a sort of illusion that looks like a flower. But when you stare at it a bit longer the flower turns into a creature. It's a very fun artwork piece with lots of bright colors. |
Title Elefly
Medium Gouache paint Size 35x35 cm Intention for this artwork I combined an African elephant with an African Painted Lady Butterfly. I thought it would be cool to use an African animal and an African insect. I used one of my old artworks as inspiration for this, it was the Disney character Dumbo with cartoon butterfly wings as ears. I wanted to make a more realistic version of it Title Freaky Friday Medium Gouache and Acrylic paint Size 22.5x30 cm Intention This artwork is one of my thoughts that I have had many times. I always wondered how it would be if humans were like animals and animals were like humans. So I switched a dog and a human and I thought that it was pretty funny. I used gouache paint for most of the paint and i used black and white for shadows and highlights. ` Title Man in color
Medium Oil pastels and acrylic paint Size 60x45 cm Intention The Man in color is an oil pastel artwork. It was made for my comparative study and the artists I used for inspiration for it are Arshile Gorky and Willem de Kooning. I used both of there art styles and used them to create this artwork. I think my art work is more connected to Arshile Gorkys artstyle because of the amount of color i used and the use of line. This was a very fun artwork to do and didn't take as long as i thought it would. Title Centenarian Faerie Medium Acrylic paint Size 35x35 cm Intention This artwork is one of my own characters that I created. At first it was a troll faerie but i started painting and that's how it came out. This character's name is Jeff and he is a really old faerie. And to add a little humor I painted Jeff picking his nose. And I got a bit carried away with the glitter and sparkled up his lil boogie. |
Title Mount Femenist
Medium Acrylic paint Size 50x40 Intention This is one of my old paintings that I painted a while ago. I replaced the presidents on Mount Rushmore with female leaders. I painted Malala, Sojourner truth, Susan B anthony, and Harriet Tubman. I wanted to paint some important women that made a difference in the world. I know that this painting isn't as good as it could be but i feel as if i've gotten a bit better with drawing and painting faces. Title Silly String
Medium Graphite and Acrylic paint Size 50x40 Intention This was an artwork i made for a school assignment where i had to include an object which was a piece of string that i had. I had my siblings all make silly faces with the string. And on each face i made the strings different colors so that the artwork had some color Title Day Dream Medium Acrylic Paint Size 59.5x49.5 cm Intention This artwork is how i feel when i'm daydreaming. It feels like everything is in black and white and the thing I'm focusing on is the only thing I see. I painted a butterfly and made it the only thing in color to represent how I feel when daydreaming. |
