Hello! My name is Jocelyn Jimenez. I started visual arts in my junior year, it was really hard to learn, but then it got a little easier every time I practiced! I have had a lot of fun creating all of my art. Most of my experience is with dance and I wanted to try something new. I like to create art that has a lot of meaning behind it and that can help my community by spreading awareness of a specific topic. I also like to create art that has a lot of emotions. When I make my art I like to use acrylic paint, pastels, markers, and color pencils. After graduating from Shortridge High School I plan to attend IU Bloomington where I can study to become a pediatrician.

Hi my name is Miguel Rojas. I started doing art when I attended Broad Ripple in 6th grade and ever since then I have been doing art and I really loved art. I love how you can draw so much in one picture and it can have so much meaning. Art is something really interesting to me because I can use creativity to draw anything I picture in your mind. I don't think you have to be good at art to enjoy it. Anything you are able to create can be considered art which is the reason why I love art! After high school I plan to go to a trade school to become a carpenter.

My name is Bailey Jones and I have been taking art classes since kindergarten. Entering my senior year, I was nominated as the president of Shortridge High School's National Art Honors Society. I have always loved art, from learning about art history to creating art. My whole life I have created things from paintings on large canvas to 3D artworks. I love how art can challenge your perspective. My dream in life is to one day have an artwork in a museum. After high school I will be going to Herron School of Art and Design on the IUPUI campus and plan to major in Art History.

My name is Ella Goldsmith, and there’s not a time I can remember when I haven’t loved art. I have always enjoyed the way art can be used as a replacement for the words we lack. I think the versatility of art is a major factor of what makes it unique and able to be shared universally. Apart from art, I enjoy learning about human behavior, American Sign Language, and watching TED Talks. I look forward to my future at IUPUI in the fall as I plan to study psychology and meet new people.

My name is Rory. I am 17 and I plan to attend either Purdue University or IUPUI to study computer science next fall. I am on the Shortridge Golf Team and I also am a member of National Arts Honor Society. I have been in art classes and clubs off and on since I was little. I plan on pursuing art as a hobby after high school. I’ve enjoyed drawing with graphite for a long time and I consider it my strongest medium. I have branched out a bit in high school and have developed an interest in improving my skills with colored pencils.

My name is Gabriela Miguel. I started to enjoy art when I decided to take art class in middle school. Art can contain different skill sets, messages and languages. Because I have studied art I can understand what other artists are showing in their art. The conceptual meaning is so interesting to me and allows me to continue to love art in new ways. After high school I have two plans in mind: one of the plans is to go to college although it is still yet undecided where I really want to go. The other plan is to start a business with my mom.

Hi! My name is Miles Landrum. I have had a mixed relationship with art, enjoying it but not having much confidence in my abilities as an artist. This all changed for me freshman year when I became a part of a few art-focused communities. These groups inspired me to learn and pursue art as a career. I make art as a way to fulfill my creative urges and learn about different mediums and techniques. After high school I intend to go to college and learn more about art and design, and hopefully pursue a career as a Graphic Designer.

Hello! My name is Angus Ely-Smith, I am 18 years old and I started art in grade school but only took a real interest around seventh or eighth grade. Art has always been a way for me to express myself but it wasn't until recently that I began to fully appreciate the lengths it could take me. Given my interest in pursuing architecture as a future career, art allows me to explore different perspectives, areas of design, and parts of the world, all of which are positive attributes to my chosen path. I hope for art to be a long term part of my life as well as my future career but also for it to remain a fixture of self-expression in my life for years to come.

Hello! My name is Brysay Aguilar and I have attended Shortridge High School for four years. I have grown to love the various opportunities offered at SHS. I was part of the first Girls Varsity Soccer team and soon became the Captain. Apart from playing soccer I also took part in various honor societies, such as National Art Honor Society, National Chinese Honor Society, National Honor Society, and National English Honor Society. I am very busy and when I make art I like to work with graphite and create portraits. I like making portraits because I have found that the more I practice facial features the more I learn about how to work with other materials and this strengthens my skill set.

Hey! My name is Brianya Turner but I go by Bree because it is simpler! I have been attending Shortridge High School since my freshman year. I started taking art as a freshman because I thought I could draw, which I really could not, but I tried my best to express myself anyway. I did have the tendency to get upset when I did not do something right concerning my art-making but now I have grown older and wiser and just work at doing my best. I have grown to love taking art class even though it requires a lot of skill, sometimes tears, a bit of stress, and especially determination! I love art in general. I love to write poetry. I have also been known to be a people person and usually have a lot of confidence, which I try to show through my art!

My name is Violet Hannan, I love animals, nature, and film. I have also played music for most of my life, including the violin, ukulele, and sometimes I enjoy singing. After high school, I plan on going to college, but I am currently undecided on where I am going. I began taking art in my freshman year, and I have always been especially interested in painting and drawing with graphite. My Big Idea for the exhibition is about films, actors and Hollywood during the 1950’s and 60’s. I am very interested in the subject of film, and the style of films and Hollywood during the golden age. In the artworks I have created, I featured some architecture in Hollywood, portraits of celebrities from that time, and works based around film.

Hello, my name is Doris Bermudez. I have attended Shortridge for three years. I began doing art in 2015, and want to major in art at college. I started off as a self-taught artist and I learned to like practicing with various styles and media of art. Throughout my years of doing art, I loved working with color pencils. I took it upon myself to learn different types of media to expand my skills. I like drawing people and characters and the more I work with techniques and skills I learn how to draw bodies and skin tones better. Art is not the only thing I love to do. I also love to write. My Big Idea for the exhibition is about emotions, and character development with emotions. In my breath of work I will be using characters from my series that I am working on to express emotions based on their backgrounds and relations to real life situations.

Hi! My name is Ayaila (Uh-yay-luh). I have been creating art since I was a little babe. I have a large family and most of us do some form of art. I was exposed to art at a young age because my parents are both interested in art. My mom is a photographer and my dad likes to draw. My cousins and siblings dance and my aunt is a painter. I have had formal training but I also watch a tremendous amount of youtube videos expanding my knowledge of art styles and techniques. Growing up I learned to like to draw, paint, sculpt and create wacky and eccentric jewelry. I love animals and am a vegetarian. After high school I plan to attend college for Visual Art or Business and become a full time artist.

My name is Francesca Taylor. I plan on attending University to study fine arts in the fall but am undecided on the University. I have grown up around the arts and found a love for them at a very young age. I have taken art every year while attending Shortridge which has allowed me to discover my love of oil and acrylic painting, as well as traditional portraiture. Much of my work is focused around ideas of identity and femininity. I chose to utilize both of these themes within my breadth of artwork. Outside of visual arts, I have a passion for music, theater, and film, all three of which often influence my paintings and ideas.

My name is Kameron Milton and I plan on attending Ball State University in the fall. I am pursuing the career of architecture. Art has been part of my life since I was young. Almost everyone in my family has some form of artistic talent. Growing up I loved watching cartoons and I used that love to help inspire me as an artist. Graphite, color pencils, ink and markers are media I like to use to express my artistic ideas. Throughout time cartoon drawings turned into realism, and that is where I stand now. I also constantly doodle!

My name is Malike and for many years I was enrolled in orchestra. I played the viola for four years. My hobby was art and my siblings, and I would try to outdraw one another. It was always competitive with my brothers. I have always had a passion for art but never took it seriously until this class. I love drawing portraits and using graphite and ink as my medium.

Hello, my name is Sergio. After high school I have plans to attend college for an associate degree or possibly trade school. I am still undecided on what I want to do after graduation. I have been doing art since my freshman year. I have always had an interest in wildlife, I like to explore and see different things in life. Hence why I based my project on animals. I didn't want to be mundane, so I decided to focus on the idea of Animal Metamorphosis to spice things up. This project has brought out all the creativity I have because I am making my own animals out of my own imagination.

Hi, my name is Eyitayo Olowojolu. I have been drawing since I was a kid. Back then I would make little comic books and sell them to my classmates to read. Over the years I lost interest in making art and did nothing related to art until I started my Junior year at Shortridge. At first, making art was hard for me. I realized it was not as easy as making the type of artworks I was familiar with as a kid. Over time I managed to adapt to the new change. I realized I was good at painting and making collage and that is what I focused on. For this DP art show, I decided to focus my big idea on my culture of origin, Nigeria. I made art that displayed the beauty of Nigerian art and lifestyle.
